Yamagata

Yamagata is located in the northern part of Honshu, Japan’s main island. It faces the Sea of Japan. You can enjoy sweet red cherry-picking in spring and summer and visit Yamadera, the serene mountain temple Matsuo Basho visited and made the famous Haiku poem.  In the wintertime, you can enjoy the world-class ski resort of Zao and see “snow monsters,” beautiful snow-covered threes.  Yamagata offers sweet cherries, Yonezawa Wagyu, great seafood, and a few regional ramen. The Capital is Yamagata City.
