Kumamoto is located on the south coast of Kyushu island. Mt. Aso is a large active volcanic mountain with one of the largest caldera in the world. Kumamoto Castle is one of the most magnificent castles in Japan. Approximately 800 cherry trees entertain visitors every spring, cherry blossom season. Suizenji Garden was made in the 17th century and is a stunning Japanese-style landscape garden. Kumamoto is known for excellent Aka Ushi wagyu and Kumamoto ramen. The Capital is Kumamoto City.
