Gifu

Gifu is located in the Chubu Region of the mainland of Honshu. Gifu is famous for its many sightseeing spots. One of them is Hida-Takayama, where you find Edo period houses, merchants’ houses, and sake breweries. It is designated as an area of critical traditional buildings by the Japanese Government. Two villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama are major attractions near Takayama. You see thatched-roof houses that remind of old Japanese folklore. Shirakawa-go is a World Heritage site. Gifu offers Hida Wagyu beef, considered one of the top-quality wagyu. It also provides excellent persimmons, chestnuts, and sweet fish. The Capital is Gifu City.
