Shiga is located in the Kansai Region of the main island of Honshu. Lake Biwa is the largest lake in Japan. In the nearby city, you find Hikone Castle. It was completed in 1622 and is registered as a national treasure. The castle is unique because you find many different architectural styles. Omi Hachiman is a charming old canal town.  You can enjoy a small boat cruise along the canal. Shiga offers one of the very best wagyu in the country, called Oumi Gyu.  It’s also known for excellent green tea, sweet fish, tomatoes, and strawberries. The Capital is Otsu City.
