Aomori

Aomori is in the Tohoku Region and is the northernmost prefecture on the main island of Honshu. It’s known for great produce, especially apples. Hirosaki Castle is one of the most famous castles with over 400 years of history, where you can enjoy impressive cherry blossoms in spring. Shirakami-Sanchi crossing into both Aomori and Akita prefectures is a massive 130,000-hectare beech forest area. It’s the largest in the world.  16, 971-hectare beech forest of the region is registered as a World Heritage Site.  Aomori’s Nebuta Festival is simply spectacular. Giant lanterns made of paper and bamboo on the floats are parading through the city. The capital is Aomori City.
