Okinawa

Okinawa is located in the East China Sea between Taiwan and mainland Japan. It consists of 160 islands and has a subtropical climate. It’s known for marine sports because of the beautiful beaches and coral reefs. Ishigaki Island, Miyako Island, Iriomote islands are a few popular destinations. Iriomote island is undeveloped, and 90 % of the land is covered by dense jungle and mangrove forests. The wild animals are also unique. Iriomote Yamaneko, a wild cat, is found only on this island. It is an endangered species. Each prefecture has regional cuisine, but Okinawan dishes are incredibly unique due to the local ingredients, such as bitter melons. It’s considered that the cuisine contributes to the longevity of the Okinawans.  The Capital is Naha City.
